They divulged these recipes, passed down from generation to generation: secrets for smooth skin and glossy hair.
All of these tricks are natural and effective. They’re also relatively easy to source (most of can be found at your local Indian grocer or Whole Foods) and cheaper than buying chemical-laden products at the drugstore.
#1 – Aloe Vera Gel
Indians documented aloe vera’s benefits as far back as 4,000 years ago. Today, we know aloe vera gel contains more than 20 vitamins. This includes vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C and E.
These vitamins increase your scalp’s blood circulation, increasing hair growth. Aloe vera also contains polysaccharides and glycoproteins that stimulate new hair growth. This can fight pattern baldness if the cause is something temporary, like stress or malnutrition.
Simply slice open an aloe vera leaf and scoop the gel out. Toss this in your blender and process until smooth. Then, rub the resulting solution throughout your scalp.
#2 – Wash With Cold Water
When you wash your hair with scalding hot water, the heat actually opens your follicles wide, removing the oil and moisture your locks need to grow.
Washing your mane with cold water, on the other hand, closes your follicles to lock in those vital nutrients.
#3 – Make An Egg Mask
Here’s a trick former Miss India, New York herself recommends.
Eggs are full of protein, which encourages hair growth and moisture. This will ensure that your locks not only grow long but stay strong as well!
You’ll need two fresh eggs and some probiotic yogurt. The yogurt will reverse any hair damage you may have and act as a thickening agent.
Begin by cracking open the eggs in a bowl. If you have naturally oily hair, separate the yolk from the egg white and only use the latter. If your mane is dry and in need of moisture, don’t worry about separating the two.
Next, dish out four tablespoons of yogurt. Mix this thoroughly with the egg. Once it’s all mixed, apply the mask throughout your locks. Let this sit for 20 minutes, then wash it off with cold water.
#4 – Essential Oils
There are a number of fantastic essential oils for hair growth. The Indian Spot recommends carrot, chamomile, tea tree and cypress oil. Feel free to combine a couple of those oils for extra benefit. You’ll want to mix the essential oils in with a ‘base’ oil like olive or coconut oil.
Mix the essential oil at a ratio of 6 drops per ounce of base oil. Rub this throughout your hair and let it sit for 20-30 minutes. Then, wash as normal.
