Your child’s fever can cause stress and a great deal of worry. According to some studies, if your child is healthy, a fever is usually nothing to worry about. A fever works to fight off an infection that is causing your child to be sick.
If your child is burning up and is uncomfortable, however, there are several steps you can take to help your child feel better. A high fever that lasts for more than a few days needs to be brought to the attention of a pediatrician.
Here are some methods to lower child’s fever in less than 5 minutes:
1. Grated potatoes
First wash than peel and grate the potatoes and after that you should put them in the child socks.
2. Brandy and water
At first you should diluted small cup of brandy with the same amount of water, than soak a gauze with this mixture,and than put this gauze in the child socks.
3. Place a cool, damp washcloth on your child’s forehead while she rests.
4. Give your child a lukewarm tub bath or a sponge bath.
As the water evaporates from her skin, it will cool her and bring her temperature down. Don’t use cold water. It can make her shiver and cause her body temperature to rise.
5. Offer your child plenty of fluids and chilled foods, such as ice pops and yogurt, to help cool the body from the inside out and keep her hydrated.
6. Use a fan. Again, you don’t want your child to be chilled.
Keep the fan at a low setting and have it circulate the air around her rather than blow directly on her.
7. Remove layers of clothing so your child can lose heat more easily through her skin.
Dress her in one light layer. If she’s shivering, give her a light blanket until she’s warm again.
8. Stay indoors in a cool place. Or, if you’re outside, stay in the shade.
You should call the doctor right away if your child is younger than 3 months old and has a fever. For a baby 3 to 5 months old, call the doctor if her temperature reaches 101 degrees or higher. Once she’s 6 months old, call if her fever reaches 102 degrees or more.
